Getting around to replacing my plastic fuel filter and fuel hose with metal wix filters and fuel injection hose.

Currently, there are two fuel filters. One is just as the fuel line leaves the tank and the other is between the fuel pump and the carb.

Is this stock? Is this recommended? If not stock, would multiple filters restrict fuel flow?

Should I replace one or both?

Thanks,
Stephen

I have two. One canister type near the tank and one inline metal one just prior to a fuel pressure regulator, on the inner fender away from heat.

You can use two, one doesn't have to be a canister type, I just like that one because it is larger and any sediment would fall to the bottom of it, and the base is removable so you can change the element every so often (rarely I'd imagine unless you have a ton of crap in your tank). I just changed my tank recently, and switched to electric fuel pump, so I installed new filters at that time. My ('67) gas line looked pretty clean inside so I kept that.

I think the uptake hose on my sending unit probably has a coarse filter on the end of it as well.

Most filters are pretty free flowing (10-100 micron mesh metal or paper), shouldn't be an issue unless, again, you have a lot of stuff crapping them up...then I'd think you'd want to clean your tank and/or lines anyhow.

The stock fuel pickup in the tank has a filte ron it and there was only one metal can filter up by the engine on most applications. More wouldn't hurt, but the benefit is debateable. If the first one clogged then no gas would reach the second, therefore the second wouldn't clog.

Or sock has fallen off in a nasty rusting tank.

Thanks for the replies. The tank is only 2 years old. I deleted the rear filter and replaced the one between the pump and carb. Both were very dirty. I'm wondering if the previous owner replaced the tank but not the filters?

Thanks again!
