The BBD was rebuilt 10+ years ago and mounted to the intake. And there is sat and rusted.

I started to take it apart in order to make sure it was still clean and remove all of the rust.

I broke the screw shown below:

(Photo borrowed from another post. Did not have time to upload my photos last night)

I cannot find it listed as a carburetor part.

Are they available and where would I get one. Or an acceptable replacement

Thanks

Dennis

If you cannot find one, I probably have one in a bunch of parts I bought. PM your address if you need it.

Well, the adventures continue.

Cannot find the FIRST screw I broke. Going to hit up the junk yards for a replacement. Hopefully.

And now I broke off an idle adjustment screw in the throttle plate. I drilled and re-tapped, but now I wonder if it will still work properly

I would love to throw a new carb on, but I have already exceeded my budget.

+1. How is it you keep breaking screws? Sounds like you need to soak it all in tsome penetrating lubricant and maybe even clean the threads up with a wire bruch.

Thanks for the replies.

I will check my local hardware store

The carb was rebuilt and never run. It sat uncovered for 10+ years.

I did soak the screws with penetrating oil.

The fast idle screw just snapped. Like it was already broke. It did not take any real effort.

The idle mixture screws was coming out. Slowly. And then pop.

When I got the other screw out it appears to have been bent at one point.

I am in the South Suburbs of Chicago

Update time.

Found the fast idle screws off of a BBD on a jeep at the parts yard.

Throttle plate on that carb was different than the one I have. Plus there was too much electronics and crap in the way for me to get the whole unit out in the time I had.

I will have to order the idle adjusting screws from somewhere. Walker products has them but shipping is expensive.

Any other recommendations?

You might want to drill them out and retap the arm with a fine thread tap of common thread size, so you can use a readily available machine screw of that thread size and adapt (round, file, grind, polish) the end of the screw (if necessary) to fit the spot where it makes contact with the carb.

I lost my fast idle adjust screw for my Weber and couldn't find a replacement for the life of me. I did the above. I used #10-32 thread, but there are finer threaded taps/screws as well. Carb adjustment screws are pretty fine thread pitch (for max adjustment).

Thanks. I will check it out. Have to measure the screws when I get home.

With rusted/corroded in place screws, soak 'em well with penetrant and let 'em sit overnight, then soak 'em again! When ya start to remove the screws just barely turn them in one direction, then STOP.
Turn them back the other way 'til they start to bind. Clean the threads with a fine wire brush and repeat the above 'til they start to bind again - STOP. Go back and forth like that without putting any strong effort
but go just a bit further each time. Adding heat with a bic lighter or soldering gun may also help.

It seems that you've already discovered that trying to rush creates more delays, the same way most of us have.
