i am finally getting everything buttoned up on ruster after a wintr of disassembly and fabricating to make new parts fit.

I have a few holes in the firewall that I route the wires through, but the holes are much larger than the wires passing thorough.

do I need some kind of covering for the empty space or can I get away with the fan motor hole and the wiring bulkhead hole being uncovered?

thanks, Greg

Sorry, no. You gotta plug 'em. I might suggest just a patch panel of aluminum, screwed over the hole(s), with some appropriate sealant, with a grommet through it for wiring protection.

For the smaller wiring holes NAPA usually has a plastic boxed assortment of nice grommets that will help.
