Post subject:  Let's talk about Oil Coolers.
My slant is still NA, but I do endurance race it for 8+ hours at a time. I've been thinking of adding an oil cooler for the sake of engine longevity, but I've also heard that doing it badly can cause more problems than it solves. As a result, I have some questions.

First, are there any models of oil cooler y'all would recommend? Can you use a sandwich type adapter, or does the oil filter standpipe cause problems? Do I actually need the filter standpipe? Will the pressure drop across a cooler be too much for the stock oil pump, or can the stock pump handle it? What size lines would be necessary to keep from restricting flow too much?

I cannot answer all of your questions intelligently, others will chime in,

But -10 Lines would be sufficient as to not restrict flow. They are about the same size as the Main Oil Gallery that feeds from the pump to the Cam and Crank.

I agree that AN-10 is sufficient. The oil filter stand pipe comes out and will need to in order to fit a sandwich adapter. Plate-type oil cooers are more effective than tube-and-fin type.

What is your peak oil temperature now?

derale has a sandwich adaptor with a thermostat in it.

I think they also have a kit that includes the cooler. (they did about 10 years ago).


You can put in a remote oil fiter kit in while you're at........

I did this on my Toyota

AN10 will be fine, used AN8 with the Toyota.....
