Ok, Hi my name Frank. I would like to know where to get a double roller chain set fora /6. I tried the napa part#'s and the chain is loose on the coast side. I have heard the rollermaster or JP requires some mods. I really need help. My son and I are installing a performance cam, 4v manifold, headers. just need some help. Thanks Frank |

Hi Frank. I changed my car's chain with a Rollmaster, I bought it via ebay (not cheap). You will need to cut some of the crankcase sprocket back face (facing the engine, don't remember how much now). If you don't do that, it will seat too far from the engines face, and won't be on the same plane as the camshaft sprocket (The camshaft cam move forward a little when the engine is running, but you don't want that, and chains are not designed for handling lateral forces). You will need also to heat the crankcase sprocket to install it, it is an interference seating, and you need to expand it to slide over the camshaft. Be careful too, the sprocket has slots to degree the camshaft, and they can bite the crancase and damage/uneven its surface). I started a tread about this when installing it, look for it, people helped me there. About the other chains: The one I removed, and a CompCams and a Duralast I bought too (all single row) had the same chains length, and also were loose on the coast side (the Rollmaster is tight). My car's engine now pre-ignites sometimes when coasting, specially at low speeds (I guess it is ok in an auto transmission, but it is annoying with the manual). The slack might be by design, to smooth down the coasting. These are my 2cnts, More people can chime about this. Good luck. |

Did you ask for a Cloyes timing setup? I see Rock Auto will allow for these double Roller components from Cloyes to be bought separate. One of my local mom and pop shops also list them in their database as well. Crank: S339 Cam: S338 Chain: C168 |

All I find at Hughes Engines now is a $30 timing chain set and a chrome valve cover |

Rolmaster chain in ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROLLMASTER-TIMI ... e0&vxp=mtr 150$, but from Australia (may take time for shipping). I bought from somebody having them in the US, around 160-180$. By the way, I checked timing on my engine and it was too advanced, which explained why the car was jittery when decelerating/coasting. So, I was wrong when blaming it to the chain, my apologies. |

On 3/14 of this year I purchased same chain $131.79. I guess they must be getting harder to manufacture |

Sam, don't recall exactly. Between 5 to 10 before TDC (no vac in distributor, 650 rpm). Service manual indicates 0 TDC. I guess I felt a little more power before, but the jumping while coasting, specially at low speeds, was annoying. |

Just an update on my Rollmaster and the pre-ignition problem: I measured TDC properly after my previous posts and the timing was not 5 to 10 BTDC, probably was 10 to 15 (or even more). After properly timing the engine, and running it a little richer at idle (as Reed suggested in a different post) it runs without pre-ignition (and cooler), so it had nothing to do with the time chain lack of slack.
