| Post subject: | low fuel pressure symptoms |
I finallygot the urge to fight with my 65 valiant again. Its been a while since I worked on it. Ive gone through 3 carter bbs carbs, trying to figure out why it acts like it has a vacuum leak. The vacuum gauge needle vibrates, idle is rough and irratic and shakey. Today when I start it up, I noticed the fuel filter hardly had any gas, and actually very little is touching the filter element. The level/flow seems quite constant through idle, and doesnt move while revving, except for a tiny splash here and there. This seems low to me, tomorrow ill have time to check the actual pressure. I come here to ask you, could low fuel pressure cause my issues? How much pressure do I want in a 65 valiant 225 carter bbs motor? Thanks guys |

5 psi is plenty. Don't worry about vapor in the fuel filter. The liquid only has to go high enough to cover the outlet. Better yet, get a metal fuel filter that's safer than any plastic or glass filter. When did you last lash the valves? Have you run a compression test? Leakdown tests are good too as you can spot leaky valves. |

Motor doesnt even have 1k miles on the rebuild. I did valave lash after first 300mi oil change. I have not done a compression or leak down test sinx e these problems started. I gave up on the car almost a year ago... now im about to do it again. I suppose I can check for valve problems, but from being basically new motor I wouldnt expect part failure just yet |

Assuming too much can cost you much time and effort. |
