i bought a new head for my slant yesterday. i paid 250$ for it. new reseated valves, new springs, and basically new everything. it was from the guy at the local rodefelds machine shop in town. he does really good work and it looks really nice. i think i came out ahead of the deal. how much did some of you pay for your heads? im only 17 and this is my first engine rebuild. |

Paid 300.00 here in LA and that was for a complete job with new guides and hardened seats on the exhaust side. Sounds like you got a good deal. |

I paid $260 for my rebuilt head. I believe you can get rebuilt carry-out heads from local auto parts dealers for $130 or so, I will check for latest prices. There is a large rebuilder in town which remanufactures about 3,000 motors a month, they advertise 225 heads for $110. Short blocks for $290. An assembled 225 is $670. I don't know about the quality at that price! I might try one just to see. I think its good to support the small local machine shops as there are fewer of them, they're the only place to get custom jobs done. http://www.citymotorsupply.com/top100domesticsheet.htm |
