My buddy and I was at at our shop yesterday working on our projects(mine-61Valiant his-64 dodge330 2door post) and a freind of ours needed to use a stall to put a clutch in his sons Dakota so when he had his trans out I checked it out it was a np535 and it looks like it might be a viable alternative for our slants and still stay all mopar-any and all thoughts on this would be appreciated. BTW, ididnt have a bellhousing lying around to check it against this trans so I am goind on purely visuals here. |

I have a 535 trans and a slant 833 bellhousing. The center hole is the same size. The 535 input shaft is about 1 inch shorter, then the 833. Also the mounting bolt holes in the trans, are spaced further apart, on the 833. They locate on the outer edge of the bell housing. It looks like some welding would have to be done on the bellhousing, and then new holes drilled and tapped. It looks doable, but nowhere near a bolt in. |

Yeah, I realized that it wouldnt be a true bolt in but maybe it would give an option to the guys wanting a 5-spd(like me),BTW is that a a o-d bellhousing you have or a standard a833 4 spd. Also I sent you apost in the engine section. |

It is a overdrive slant six bell houising. Also have the trans, but nothing else. Just some more "stuff" I have collected, rather then see it get scrapped. |

Keep in mind that the 535 trans may have "truck" ratios that make it crappy for racing. I don't know, but is worth checking before lots of adapter work... Lou |

The gear spacing on the 535 might be biased to hauling heavy things: a low 1st gear with wide spacing. |
