Just got my good head back from Mike and Blaine Friday, so I pulled the little Slantzilla motor out this morning for a little upgrade.
The head came back with 6 new exhaust valves, 1 new intake, 12 guides, a valve job, new springs, and a .010" cleanup mill. I believe the guide damage came from my experiment with the RAS rockers a couple years ago. I put about 400 miles on them, and I don't think they were oiling the valve stems very well.
The other little upgrade will be a Mopar .528" cam. I'm hoping that will get me a little more oomph in high gear aginst them pesky small block Chevies!
Cam is in and degreed, head is back on, and all I gotta do is take my front cover in to work tomorrow to weld on the nut for my cam stop. I should have it back in Tuesday night, and dialed in for the points race at RT66 Sunday.
Thanks Doug and Mike for the directions on the cam stop! It goes right on the spot where the greases in the cover meet in the middle.
I ended up running a best of 15:26@86.7 with a box stock 170 head on my shortblock.
