Post subject:  Experience w/ crankcase vac pump or header aspirator?

Hey folks,

I am considering getting a system set up to evacuate my crankcase. Currently, my engine leaks no oil under normal driving, but running around the road course at 3500-6000 RPM for 30 minutes gives me some leaking out of the rear main seal. I'm pretty sure this is due to high crankcase pressure (blowby). :( Not a lot of oil, but enough to notice.

I'd like to set up either a header collector aspirator system or a vacuum pump of some sort. Anyone have any experience with these and/or recommendations? I may just try the header thing first and see how it sucks...

Thanks much,

Lou

I had used the header version a long time ago on a small block. It worked OK. It seemed to pump a lot of oil vapours out the exhaust pipes. The car would sometimes have an oily bumper. Mine was home made. Was exactly what Moroso used to sell for several hundred dollars, my cost was a few bucks.

Thanks Kesteb, :)

I was thinking I'd have it plumbed in with a valve to close it off when not needed. I think I only need the extra ventilation on the track.

Anyone else with a story to tell?

I have used the header mounted evac. system 'on and off' for a number of years, they are pretty simple and do help some.
I do not see any power increase but it does keep the dipstick from popping-up out of it's tube after a high RPM blast.

Yep, not hard to make. A piece of iron pipe with 1/2 NPT welded into the header flange at a 45* angle, a one way smog pump valve (GM I believe), the OEM breather cap, some radiator hose and a couple of hose clamps.

Attach valve to pipe, attach hose between breather and valve. For S&G's, attach the PCV value into this setup, viola, extremely sophisticated, several hundred dollar Moroso crankcase evacuation kit.
