New to site, just finished a project truck taking a two wheel drive truck and converting it to 4x4 truck. Of course it's a 1982 dodge shortbox. It has the slant six,4 speed with creeper, and I think a 208 transfer case. I need to know the timing, I think 17 degrees before top and also what kind of fluid in t- case. The manual says 90 weight gear oil in axles and the transmission. But it says atf in the transfer case, does that sound right? Hooked it up to a big stump that I pulled out with a backhoe(which the backhoe wouldn't pull) and made it fifty feet before the tires loaded up with clay and lost traction. Had to check the 4x4 out! In 4 low and creeper the slant six seems to have quite a bit of low end pull. Six inch super lift makes truck ride really stiff, but built it for a off road play toy. Thanks gordie at polcat1998@aol.com |

Welcome... Sounds like a fun toy. (except in the city) So... 17 degrees initial timing and it idles prettty good, not rough? That seems like a lot but if it idles good, leave it there and check your total advance, that should not be more then 30 - 32 degrees. As for ATF vs. 90wt, how cold does it get where you are? This my sound funny but how about 30 wt motor oil, yes, engine oil works pretty good in H.D. trannies used in colder areas. DD |
