Noticed on installation of ARP main studs that they want more torque. On pre assembly looks like I need to line bore if I want correct bearing crush(too tight now). Does any one have the correct measurement ? Again I am not looking for bearing clearance but cap and saddle. T/y |

It is often necessary to align hone a block when installing aftermarket fasteners, especially when going from bolts to studs because of the higher torque required to achieve the correct stretch. |

As I said I discovered that it "pulls" the cap and saddle a little bit. Just not wanting to guess how big to hone it. What is the dimension? The number. As I said I have pre fit the crank and have too little bearing clearance. I have not been able to find it any where. The measurement Thanks! |

T/Y got it! I am usaully not that anal however after trial fitting and measuring crank with standard bolts I got a very good result = .002----.0025 bearing clearance. Crank rotated nicely after finding and repairing a flaw in thrust flange. After installing studs and torquing Crank would not even rotate. Removing crank and retorquing showed clearance had "shrunk" in some cases down to .0005 Yes that much. Yes i am using a dial bore guage. So I really appreciate your response and Godbless PS yes since I am going to line hone I got rid of the nasty machine marks on the caps .....block was ok

Not sure if you did a search, but Doc has noted in one of his past posts on this that when you install the main studs one will protrude into the oil passage for one of the main bearings and you will have to drill the passage to clear it once the studs are installed to keep from restricting the oil to that main. |
