Post subject:  crank pulley/damper bolt

I know most slants did not come with this bolt. Curious to know if the bolt would be installed before the power steering pulley gets bolted on. I'm inclined to think so but just want to confirm. Thanks much!

The engine doesn't need a damper bolt it is a press fit. If you really want to use one I believe one off of a 360 fits, be careful and don't tighten it too much or you will make the front seal leak it is easy to tighten it too far, just tighten it until the damper pulley until it lines up with the other pulleys. The press fit method works just fine.

The bolt makes it nice top rotate the engine by hand.

You also should not have a problem with a seal leak because of tightening up the bolt. The damper hub seats against a shoulder on the crankshaft. Run it back until it seats and your pulleys should be lined up.

Yes, pulley actually pulls up against the oil slinger and then the crank timing gear; the gear is what butts up against the crank. The pulley should be pulled up snugly to avoid any chance of the crank timing gear walking out or the oil slinger from flapping/wobbling and eventually loosening.

A bolt from any Mopar smallblock engine will work.
