I'm working on my "new" '64 Dart 170 2Dr I've had it for about three and a half months now, and when I've driving it the brakes will suddenly, and for no apparent reason, loose all pressure. Then after I pump them a few times they work fine. It doesn't happen every time I drive, and I can't really figure this out. Since I'm relatively new to car maintenance, I thought perhaps you all might know what I should do. thanks, josh |

It sounds like you have rust in the brake fluid. The only good way to fix this problem is to replace all of the wheel cylinders and the master cylinder. When doing the replacement you will need to blow out the the brake lines. If the rust is really bad, you will need to replace the brake lines. There is no half measure with this one, it is no fun going down the road and finding out there are no BRAKES! |

I would also seriously think about a dual chamber master cylinder and ditch that single chamber. If a line goes out in either the front or rear brakes, you have nothing with the single. If anything happens when you have the dual chamber, you still have one chamber operating. |
