Harmonic Balancer is on - I'm assuming it goes on only one way, right? I didn't install it - had it installed along with a front main seal. Here's why I'm asking - the belts coming off the water pump and power steering don't line up at all with the dampener. The water pump belt twists sideways in the groove - hence the discolored part on the front. The lightening holes on the dampener are on the front. I'm thinking maybe there's some sort of shim under the water pump pulley? Or that has to go to the front pulley groove and the power steering bracket needs to be modified so it engages the middle pulley. The old balancer had separated - the pulley part shifted forward - and I can see this one coming apart with the forces on it. Ideas?

The water pump pulley looks wrong see if you can find a picture of a slant six with a pump and pulley on it. Brian |

Well, it's fixed now. the previous owner had a fixation for plastic spacers. They were used everywhere - including using them to space the backwards mounted speakers to the door panel - there are no speaker cutouts in the metal door panel - so he mounted them with the magnets sticking in to the cab area and put plastic spacers under the mounting screws to space them out 1/2". Did that for 4 speakers. He also used more of these between the water pump pulley mounting flange and the pulley - and epoxied them in. I removed them and removed the epoxy - then set the spacers back in and took a picture. The spacers pushed the pulley 1/2" or more forward. It's fine now.

I'd replace that discolored belt on there if I were you. Also, I don't know if its an artifact of the picture or not but it looks like the PS pump/pulley is at a slight angle. |

Yep, belt got squirmed sideways and twisted so it is indeed shot. Will be replacing it soon, and yes you did spot that the PS pulley is at a slight angle - thanks for mentioning it. Will be fixing that soon. Truck goes to the painters later this week, might get both done by then. Painter feels confident that I need not stick with green - so a cream or tan or such as paint does not last long in NM - especially dark colors. He also said the dents would show up more with the green than a light color.
