Post subject:  Need help swapping engine 83 to 79 wiring....

Ok, Im about to take the plunge and swap my 83 slant for my 79 slant six out of the aspen.

Im ok with everything except the wiring.

I have four wires coming from the wiring harness on the 79
BLUE - ballast resistor and ECU
Prpl - Temp sensor
BLK - pos on the coil and ballast resistor
Grey - ?

Now all the wiring that goes to the Lean burn computer has me confused as to what to hook up to that 4 pin harness....?

I have a plug that connects roughly in the same place for my 83:
BLK - alt.
RED - power to computer
LT GRN - run side of the dist.
ORNG/BLK STRIPE - temp sensor

Out of these wires what goes where? and do I have to run a new seperate wire from the relay to the ballast resistor?

Any help would be much appreciated as well as if anyone has a simpler wiring solution.

Thanks a bunch (I wouldnt even attempt this stuff if it wasnt for the help of this group LOL)

Use all the wiring, ignition , carburation you can from the Aspen.

Delete lean burn

I intend to but I'm unclear as to what wires I need to hook up to the 4 wires fron the aspen to get her to run.

Like Sandy says. Take careful notes on how the Aspen is wired and plumbed and put it in your 83 (truck?) the same way. Does the Aspen run now? What is the grey wire hooked to now? I assume you have an orange ignition box on the Aspen. Mount it on the truck fender and wire it the same. Use the Aspen carb.

I think gray ("L" shaped boot?) goes to temperature sensor in head near radiator hose.
