| Post subject: | Oil Pump to Block gasket |
I'm having trouble getting an oil pump gasket . . . NAPA can bring one in from elsewhere but my question is this . . . Does one have to use a gasket here or have people been using gasket maker sealants here? |

replaced the block in my 74 and had to buy a sheet of gasket and make one. It wasn't hard to make, just a bit time consuming. I'm not the type to use RTV on anything having to do with oil flow, but that's just me... .02... -D.Idiot |

Air leaks with an external oil pump are a very bad thing. My neighbor found out the hard way on his Isuzu Trooper. Make the oil foam. Make sure you have a good seal. Back in the "old" days we'd make cylinder base gaskets for two strokes out of phone book covers...ah yes the "good ole days" |

I just put mine back on with a very thin layer of Mopar gray silicone. So far, so good. |

| Post subject: | NAPA it is then |
I picked up the Felpro gasket set from Cox which worked out great for me . . . just discovered that the oil pump gasket wasn't included. There wasn't a chance of me reusing the old one. It was extremely baked on and took a ton of elbow grease to remove it very small chunks. I guess NAPA is it then. I just didn't want to wait for a $2 gasket. |

I just took a look at my FelPro gasket sets. Mine came with 2 oil pump gaskets. 1 for the 5 bolt pump, and 1 for the 6 bolt pump. |

I think it was just the aftermarket "replacement" pumps that had the "5-hole" deal. These are the 7/8 rotor thickness pumps. I'm not sure if any 5-hole pumps ever came from the factory. DD |

| Post subject: | Appears that Chrysler made 5 bolt pumps in the 80's |
I went to pick up my gasket today (ended up ordering it thru a Chrysler dealer) and it was a 5 hole. When ordering over the phone, I'd told the guy slant six and he said my book only goes back to '82. I said no problem, trucks had slants in '82 and he said, then I'll have a couple in tomorrow. In person today, I had them hall out the old 60 parts book and when they checked with the 6 hole gasket part number [2121 404], they had 10 in stock at their western Canada warehouse. |

Doc- My '87 truck block came factory with a 5-hole pump. The block only has casting for five holes, the original pump had casting for 6 but only five holes drilled. Im guessing only very late blocks came like this. -Aaron |
