I thought I'd start my search here...a few months ago DD hinted he might have a source for these. Anyone have any suggestions? I found a low mileage early one this weekend and bought it for $40! It was a mopar lover's dream estate sale...There was another one but I was too slow.

$40.00 for an Aluminum Block SL6, what a deal.
Does it have all the main caps and special bolts?
Get me an email so I can contact you.

Until you have the actual block, it doesn't seem like a good investment. I never dreamed I would ever own one. I've read-up quite a bit on these...I'm going to stay with a very mild build. I have heard its better to run straight anti-freeze in these to avoid corrosion, any truth to this?

Welcome to the club. The aluminum 225...for the few, the brave...

At one time I had five of these engines. Had to sell three of them, broke my heart.

I know exactly where the advice to run straight antifreeze came from. This advice is bad. Antifreeze *requires* water in order for the corrosion preventive chemicals to work properly, and the heat transfer capability of straight antifreeze is very poor. Straight antifreeze is a great way to ruin an engine!

The proper head gasket is an absolute must, and there are other gotchyas to be aware of when building one of these engines. When you're ready to do it, I'm sure you'll get good info here from lots of people.

You can prevent corrosion on the Alm SL6 by following two simple rules.
1) Use a good antifreeze at the proper ratio and mix it with distilled water.
2) Ground all electrics directly, do not use the block at the negative ground source. Run a separate ground wire from the battery to the starter housing and to the alternator case. I also ground the radiator to prevent electrolysis.

I have a mild build Alm Sl6 in my 65 Dart convet. and it runs great, its been in there for 18 years without any problems. I change the anti-freeze about every 3rd year.

Ditto using the distilled/dionized water. I run this exclusively in all my radiators and batteries - conductivity bad!
