Thinking about a new fuel tank for the '63. I see there is a specific part number for '63 and another for 64-66.

The dimensions are slightly different:

1963:
Height--19.250 IN
Length--33.500 IN

64+:
Height--19.750 IN
Length--30.250 IN

And the shipping weight is 3 pounds heavier on the 64+

Now, well over 20 years ago I replaced the tank with a used one. I'm somewhat certain it was out of a '65, but it was a lot of years ago...

I'm pretty sure it was bolt-in; do you think the differences in size were minute enough to not matter?

And somewhere down the road I do remember replacing the fill tube with one from a '65 because the '63 had a slightly smaller fill neck, at least where the gas cap went and caps for the '63 were NLA, but at the time the '65s could still be found.

So I'm just wanting to purchase the correct one, hoping someone has some experience with this. It may even be a non-issue, but I don't want to get the one for the '63 and find it won't work with my '65 filler although it should since I did not switch both at the same time. And I do not want to buy the 64+ and find it won't fit my body or hardware. (Possible scenario if my memory is wrong and I used a '63 tank way back when.)

TIA!

63-66 tanks interchange the 64 and up had a very slight increase in capacity the biggest difference is the seal for the filler neck went from a O ring to a grommet just use the correct seal for the tank.

What's interesting is the dimensions of the 64+ tank are smaller than the '63, but what I also notice is there is only 2 dimensions given; so I assume the increase in capacity must be in the third unmentioned dimension.

Thanks Brian, that's what I needed. I'll go ahead and order a new grommet when I order the tank.
