 Post subject: Engine length
PostPosted: Sat May 10, 2003 9:50 am
Hello every one,
My wife has an 84 jeep cherokee with the 2.8 liter chevy v-6 engine that is a POS. It is on its last legs and I, being a dodge fan, instead of putting a New POS back in it I want to put a dodge driveline in the thing. I have only heard raves about the slant six and I want the low speed torque and smoothness that only a inline engine can provide. The most important factor that I am faced with is size limitations of the engine. I am most worried about length, from the back of the block to the front of the fan, and also the height and the width from the center of the crankshaft to the outboard edge of the passenger side. If anyone could measure theirs or had a diagram of the engine dimensions it would be greatly appricated. Thank you very much.
Jay

I don't have the dimensions you want Jay, but since the later Cherokee's had the 4.2 liter (253 ci?) inline 6's, I'm sure a slant will fit. You will probably need to fabricate the engine and transmission mounts, and need the Chrysler transmission since the 2.8 was a GM engine. Might be a lot of work! But if your good with a welder and fabricating, anything can be done.

Hah! cool!

i think the slant engine is around 30"s give or take a few from the front of the H-B to the back of the flywheel

I dont have any "exact" numbers, although i can get them when i pull the aspen's motor out. Definatly cool to swap out a chevy for a mopar, your a true mopar man in my books :D
