| Post subject: | 3 spd Manual, 170 swap to push button 904, 225 |
Hello All. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I Have a 63 dart, with 3 spd. manual, 170 slant six. Have access to a 64 dart with 225 and push button 904. 64 has been hit and is junk, but the tranny, engine, dash etc. is all good. Question is, what do I need to do an engine, tranny swap. Will it all just plug into the 63? Big question is do the columns need to be swapped out? Was there any difference in the firewalls for the 3 speed and the push button auto? Any changes to the choke, or intake/exhaust manifold. I'm sure this is obvious to a lot of you out there, but, it's my first foray into early Dodge, and I'd hate to take it on without getting as much info. as I can. thanks in advance. Glen |

I can't tell you much about the swap, aside from that you'll need to install the cable-shift unit in your dash, and I don't know how involved a project that is. No idea on the column. I don't believe there was any difference in firewall or tunnel, though. You'll need the push-button unit, the shift cable and park cable, and the flex plate from the donor car. I don't know if the speedometer cables are different. Also not sure how the back of the transmissions compare. Was the '63 3-speed also ball and trunnion? Worst case, if the transmissions are different overall lengths or the tailshafts are really different, you can probably just grab the driveshaft out of the donor car. If you go through with this swap, I might be interested in your clutch pedal assembly, assuming it can also be used with a four-speed. I'm slowly collecting parts for an A-833 swap in my push-button 904 Dart. |

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I'm just now getting my ducks in a row to do this, but, if it works out, your more than welcome to the clutch pedal assembly. |

If you have no takers on the 3 speed manual, let me know. I am interested. Just dunno how to easily get it from there to VA. |

I'll keep you in mind, rather pass on this gear to folks who can use it. Yellow freight will secure it on a pallet, and ship it to a hub in your area. |

Those 3 speeds are light enough to ship FedEx Ground. As for the 64 225 / 904 swap... that is easy into a 63... Best to grab the whole wrecked car, do the swap and then return what you do not use. Just my 2 cents. DD |

Fed Ex will work. there's a hub not too far away. Thanks, that is the plan. I'll keep you guys posted as I literally learn how to do this. I'm going to buy the whole car, and just part out the rest of it. Lots of good parts, and it was a low mileage car. |

| Post subject: | 65 Dart Column will avoid Dash rework |
If you can snag a 65 Dart steering column the shifter will work with the 904 cable transmission as an alternate to reworking your dash. |
