So I ran into a 1965 Belvedere with a very tired /6 and 904. I was fortunate enought to come across a very cheap 1973 /6 and transmission out of a scamp. It was running and driving when removed so for the summer I was going to put it in and drive the car as much a possible for the summer. What do I need to complete this swap? My primary concern is the shift cable, I know the two 904's have different cables but what is the best way and or least expensive?

Option #1:

Pull the 1965 engine and leave the 1965 tranny in the car...buy an annular ring for the crank pocket on the 1973 engine from board members Charrlie_S, Doc, or online from Pat Blais...make sure the 1973 engine is in good condition and replace the timing chain, swap the oil pans and oil pick up and distributor for the ones on the 1965 engine, install the ring, and drop it right in with the Belvedere motor mounts.

Later work on changing out the 1965 points distributor for EI and the 1973 distributor to start with (and HEI if you can get all the components)...and upgrade the alternator to a newer alt with EVR. Save the 1965 engine for some later 'hi-po' rebuilding after you've worked on the car and determined what you want out of it...

Ok, I was afraid that was the best way to go. The old trans needs the rear seal replaced and a good ole band and pressure adjustment.

The good news is I have everything needed to do the swap to EI except the alternator and I'm fairly confidant I can swap that all out.

And...for later on I am thinking of sticking to the slant since I have it already and I think building that up will be fun.

Thanks Dusteridiot for the reply!
