| Post subject: | Wiseco pistons and no rings |
Just a little note to anyone who may be as uninformed as me on buying the Wiseco piston kit. It comes with pistons and pins and no rings! I am not exactly sure what benefit a .100 oversize piston is without the rings but that is apparently how they come. I had my new crank re-done and went to take a set of piston/pin/rings up to the engine shop so he could balance the crank. Much to my surprise I opened my new piston kit and there were no rings. Don't laugh yet, because Ryan and I bought 3 sets at the same time and neither of us knew that we also needed to buy rings. So now I will need to order 3 sets of rings. Why wouldn't the supplier ask if you needed rings? So there is your warning. What rings should I be ordering. These will be race cars. It seems to me that Plasma Moly, or Moly Plasma stuck in my mind. Better yet, if you know the part number. Rick PS. Did you guys that got in on the first kits get rings with yours? Or am I just looney tunes? |

Mark, I just typed in the part number PT 112A84 in Google and the kit came up on Summit's site. They do mention ring sizes, but in the description below it does not say they come with the pistons. It does mention the pins and locks. Someone else please chime in if you all got rings. The bad part is we bought them a year ago. Rick |

If you can, order the rings through Autoplicity.com since the price was 2/3 of what Wiseco quoted me for their own product. I was looking at .84 pistons and rings and yes they are separate but the distributors were not aware. |

Just got off the phone with Wiseco and the gentleman told me that the original kits did have the rings. He said some people wanted them and some did not.(Please tell me why) So the new kits will not have rings. The Part numbers that have an "A" in them instead of "H" do not have the rings. My kit is PT112"A"84 so it came without rings. They are about $25 retail . The part number for our kits which are the .084 oversize is #8850XX. 6 Needed Mystery solved! Rick |

Just checked Autoplicity and they are about the same as what Wiseco quoted me. I am just going to let the builder order them and he can get the discount. They did have the "H" sets still in stock and they had individual pistons as well. There you go Greg! Rick |

that was the catch. the "h" meant the pistons came with rings. They switched that to "a" with the same product code. you were probably looking at 5112h100 and they sent 5112a100 |

Quote: ...some people wanted them and some did not.(Please tell me why) ... Because some people will have a specific brand or type of rings that they want to run.Just for the record, the Keith Black pistons I ordered recently did not come with rings either. I was shopping for rings to fit them and found I could spend anywhere from $120 to $600 for a set of six. |

I am not really upset that they did not have the rings as much as I think it should be made a little more known when you buy them. Of course I'll never make that mistake again. So lesson learned. |

Yes, they are made to use with the 7" rods. Someone else can speak to how much compression, but probably at least 10.5 to one. |
