What grade of gas is best for my 68 dodge dart 270?

Post subject:  What grade of gas is best for my 68 dodge dart 270?
I have been using the cheaper 87 grade..as per my buddies suggestion. id rather use the 92/93--but they claim the higher grade will eventually damage the rings etc? who knows? is it possible that the higher grade could give me more power/torque? i do not hear any valve knock with the 87 grade. any forum feedback is always appreciated.

That's appropriate. If you're fortunate enough to be able to buy gasoline that does not contain ethanol, and the price isn't ridiculous, buy that. Otherwise just keep buying regular unleaded.

Why, you like wasting money? There is no reason, need, or benefit to running high-test gasoline in a stock or near-stock slant-6 engine.

That's not true. All it will do is drain money out of your wallet unnecessarily.

Gasoline grade does not influence valve noise. There is nothing such as "valve knock". Valve noise is influenced by tappet clearance -- if the valves make noise, you need to do a valve adjustment. Gasoline of too low an octane rating can cause ping/detonation/spark knock — and so can improper ignition timing, a faulty distributor, vacuum leaks, restricted exhaust flow, too-lean fuel mixture, and improper spark plugs.

When the engine finally calls it quits and you have to rebuild it after putting a hole in a piston, instead of taking the time to tune it up and making sure everything is running right...

Which allows you to save money so later you can upgrade the engine when you are ready for it.

DI may be suggesting, that once you build a high performance slant you can go back on the high test as such an engine most likely will require it. LOL
