I noticed that the transmission was leaking to late after a 7 mile drive. It started jumping gears so I turned to go home when I was about a mile from the house it stopped going. I pulled over and put it in park nothing I was still free rolling. So I threw on the e brake and checked my fluid not a drop. Checked the transmission it was hot and fluid was on the exhaust pipes and left side of the trans. Anybody got an idea of what seal or gasket it is leaking from? |

Front pump seal, trans pan, shift linkage seal, tailshaft gasket. There aren't that many places it can leak. Another common leak point is the dipstick tube, but that is on the right/passenger side of the trans. However, losing park is not related to the fluid level. Park is actually a pawl engaging a gear on the output shaft. So if your trans no longer stop the vehicle rolling when it is in park you (a) have a misadjusted linkage or (b) have something wrong inside the transmission case. Wipe/wash the trans off as best you can, fill it, watch for leaks, keep a drain pan in the bed to catch whatever leak out while you are parked. |
