Post subject:  weep hole leak?

i got a 170 in a 62 valiant.

i drove the car on general errands today, about 1 total hour of driving, with a couple stops of 15-20 minutes, it was a warm day today, car ran fine got up to normal temps, etc.

i got home, left car parked for about 4 hours, went out to do a couple things to it and let it idle for about 10 minutes. i noticed after being under the hood it started leaking coolant from the weep hole, not a lot, but a steady drip, it didn't leak ever before to my knowledge and started to leek while idling, not before as it was dry before i started it again.

does this mean i need a new pump? it looks to be the original pump, it has the weep hole shield on the casting

Time for a new pump. The purpose of the weep hole is to tell you when the bearings are wearing out in the pump.

Ones from Napa are probably OK. If you are really really worried you could try and track down a NOS one from Old Car Parts Northwest or Arizona Parts, or some other NOS parts dealer.

I have bought 2 from NAPA in the last year; both had a small amount of bearing wobble right out of the box; never used to get any water pump with any bearing wobble when new, so I am not going to get any more of their /6 pumps.

Getting an old NOS pump can be a chance on getting a dried out, hardened seal. Might be fine, or might not; you never know 'til you put it on. If no issues, it might be a really good part.
