Post subject:  Are all manifold gaskets created equally?

Just noticed something I hope will not be a problem later. Back in January, I got a rebuild kit with everything (and then some) for my /6.
Last Friday, I picked up my intake and exhaust manifolds from the machine shop where I had them vatted out and the runners shaved to make sure they all were good and flat. I held up the new gasket from my rebuild kit to see how it would fit. It seems too long! If I line up the bolt hole of the gasket at the front end of the exhaust, the one at the back end is about 1/2 hole too long. If I force both of them to line up, it causes the gasket to buckle up in the middle. Is this typical? Do I need to provide a casting number so that a particular year model gasket is provided?

By the way, the bolt that runs through the center of and holds together the
two manifolds was broken off. The machinist extracted it for me but threw it away. What type bolt is that and how long?

Thanks,
Jerry

Post subject:  How do you "gasket match"?

What is the term "gasket match" referring to, and how do you
go about doing it?
