I am trying to get my truck back together so that I can go to the slant six race this weekend but i'm having some problems. I just pulled the engine on my '85 2wd d100 to replace a rear main seal and to replace the clutch. The old clutch was usable but would slip when trying to drag race.
I replaced the clutch with a stage 4 clutch package from clutch net rated at 650b ft of torque. Its a borg/beck style clutch. The clutch works great and holds well, and if i drive and shift slowly (like you would drive on the street) the clutch works perfectly. However if I try to shift fast and push the clutch pedal quickly the pedal goes right to the floor and the truck will not shift. It seems like there is too much pressure for the master cylinder when I shift fast. There are no external leaks. Another note, The plastic tab that holds the master cylinder in the firewall broke and we made metal brackets to hold the master cylinder in place and that works well and doesn't move.
First question: Does the hose from the clutch reservoir go into the top of the master cylinder or bottom? Reason I ask is that I cannot remember which way the master cylinder was mounted and I could have it upside down since the tabs are broken.
2nd question: Would the heavier clutch be too hard for the stock master cylinder?
Any help would be great. I'm really trying to get this ready so I can drive to the race..... and hopefully drive back afterward
