Post subject:  Cleaning the engine with out head.

I have read the posts on cleaning. I am wondering if it is wise to clean the engine with a pressure washer with the head off. I can stuff the cylinders and other openings with rags. then wash the rest of it. I plan on draining the oil anyway because I see some coolant in the holes where the pushrods go and want to make sure all of that is gone before I put the head on. (there is no moisture showing on dipstick). I plan to put some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders and other areas before turning it over and then replace the oil and filter again.

The other option is to put the head and manifolds back on first then clean it but I would still have to get the little bits of coolant out of the push rod holes.

I would seal the engine as best you can before cleaning the outside. This means head, manifolds, valve cover, distributor, fuel pump, etc all in place. Use a vacuum to get the small amount of coolant and oil out of the places it shouldn't be.
