Need some help guys. I am removing the automatic (push button) 904 transmission on my 63 Valiant and can't figure how to remove the shift cable. I think I remember seeing how to do it somewhere on the forum, but I can't find the post.

You need to get behind the adjuster wheel and lift-up the lock wire with a thin tool.
Here is a picture, it is real easy to do when the trans pan is removed.

Doc,
Thanks for the tip. Got it off without removing the pan. Now the fun really fun stuff begins. I'm trying to remove the transmission to replace my fly wheel. The teeth are gone in two spots. Got everything disconnected and the transmission is free. No matter how I twist the @#$ thing, I cant get it past the fire wall. Now it's personal  About how far dose it need to come back before it's clear, and can you give me any tips on sliding it past the fire wall. Do I need to remove the steering parts to lower the engine another inch or two? Been at it for about six hours now. Thought I would post then go fishing for an hour or two because it's too early to drink heavily right now and I'm about to SNAP.
Taking deep breaths and thinking happy thoughts here in Pittsburgh...
