i need to upgrade from a 7 1/4 2.76 rear end.i am looking at a 8 1/4. i need something that will hold a 318 while i rebuild my slant 6. from what i heard an 8 1/4 will hold a small block v8. if anybody know where i could buy a decent suregrip rear ready to go i would appreciate the info. thanks

bigcasey; a 7.25 will hold up against a mild 318 if you don't flog it. Many 273 cars had the 7.25. The later M body (5th aves) used 7.25s too. People look under them and see 3" tubes and say " ah hah! 8.25" but if you look close, the tubes swage down at the center section to 7.25 size.
