I have a set of 5-leaf JC whitney's in my '66 too. They've been in there a year and so far, so good. They were about $120 a pair plus shipping.

I picked up a set of Super Stock springs at the Spring Fling for next to nothing. They look pretty good. Now I'm having second thoughts. Some sources say,expect the rear of the car to sit off level. The springs are stiffer on one side. Is this a problem? The car is mostly a daily driver although I have a pretty mean motor and an 833. I'm swapping in an 8 3/4 3.23 posi rear this summer and drive it pretty hard. Should I give them a try or to pick up something else? Mike |

I would vote to use something else, those SS springs are more then you need for a street Slant. They will stick the back end of the car up in the air unless you de-arch or pull a couple of leaves out of them. DD |

those s/s springs do make my swinger sit a bit off level. they will also make the car sit up high. i remedied this by flipping the front spring hangers (a little grinding required for this.) now it sits just right. make sure to set your pinion angle or you may get a bit of vibration. -james |

My car has the original 4 leaf springs with 400k+ on them. What would you suggest as a replacement? They need to go away. I have v8 torsion bars in front. (From a Formula S) I don't mind them being stiffish. I've also thought about softer springs and a beefy sway bar in back. I'm about to swap the 8 3/4 in and would like to do it all at once. |

Mike, I have the JCWhitney 5 leaf HD springs in both my cars (both sets about 10 years old and still fine). They are perfect for my heavier '68, but a bit stiff for the '64. Even with no rear SwBar, the '64 oversteers just a touch, but is neutral with a passenger in the rear seat. You might just get the JCW 4-leaf standard replacements. Good quality springs, and hard to beat the price. Course, the 5-leafs are just a bit more and you can always remove a leaf. You might also check out the adjustable front perches from www.arengineering.com. You will need to drill the holes on your stock perches to 5/8" if you use those - no biggie. I also recommend polyU bushings (Energy Susp or PST brand so they don't squeak as much, although still a little), if you want least flex and best handling. Ride is slightly harsher, but not a big deal. I plan on trying my current 5 leafs with the lowest leaf removed to see how that goes. Eventually, I will buy some fiberglass leafs from http://www.flex-a-form.com/ to shave about 35-45 lbs off - mostly unsprung weight too! Cheers, Lou |

Wouldn't the 4 leaf springs with a sway bar give softer straight line ride and stiffer cornering? The rear is so "tied together". Would it make that much difference? I think I'm gonna order the 5 leaf springs anyway. More is better right!  Mike |
