First we'll need to know - solid or hydraulic lifters? |

After making sure your damper timing mark is indeed top dead centre and your cam is timed correctly you can set your valves cold. Use the same clearances as if the motor warm + .003" Start at TDC on #1 ...adjust valves...then hand roll the motor over and watch which intake valve is closing next....when that cylinder is at TDC adjust both valves. Go through all the cylinders twice to make sure. Many folks reset the valves once the motor is warm and running well. I set them again when everything is warm....but use the prestart method...and the correct lash. |

We dont know whats marked (or not) on your balancer. Quote: then hand roll the motor over and watch which intake valve is closing next....when that cylinder is at TDC adjust both valves.
.....153624 is your firing order.....cylinders fire 120 degrees apartset #1 at TDC....roll (the right direction) 120 degrees....set #5 (at TDC) Thats all fine.....but if I watch the intake valves ....and make sure THAT cylinder is at TDC..I am less likely to &#@% it up. |
