Remove the bellhousing first, then you'll be able to access all the other bolts and parts.

You can get at at least 2 bolts from the bottom. Loosen them....rotate the motor....loosen 2 more....rotate loosen. You will have to remove them gradually.

Think about getting or making a clutch alignment tool for reassembly.

thanks for replies. so as typical looks like the book left both those steps/ options out!?! Al Von book just says "clutch housing does not need to be removed" and I don't see how to remove it easily.i have the low mounted starter if that gives a better picture of what I'm working with.Sandy do I need to put a wrench on the motor or do you mean to rotate it by turning the key over? thanks again for info

3 of them bolts are covered by the flywheel, so you can't remove the bellhousing....

Pull battery cable, pull the spark plugs... you can have someone roll the damper with the belt or if you have a crank bolt use a wrench on it...
If you have lots of time on your hands you can also use a screwdriver to roll it tooth by tooth while under the vehicle... rotate each bolt into view and remove, or try to get a pair to show so you can use a closed end wrench on it... If you've done this a while, there is a flywheel holder you can buy if you are going to do a few of these:

I am a pretty firm believer in just pulling the motor to replace a clutch in a truck or a car. Especially if it doesn't have air to mess with. Call me crazy, but by the time I get the rusted bolts out of the cross member on a truck I can have the motor hanging on my crane and work on the clutch and PP out in the open. Just one man's opinion.
