Post subject:  198 rods, and bored cylinders

I have been doing some reading regarding chrysler engines and possible upgrades. I was reading that something that could be done was use 198 rods in a 225 (since the 198 rods are longer than the 225) and use Shorter pistons from a 2.2 Litre Turbo engine (a mopar of course). These pistons are said to be approximately .04 inches larger. How much more can you bore out a 225 and still have good cylinder wall thickness (provided you have a good base to work from in the beginning). ?

ALso are there any other aftermarket pistons out there that could be used with the 198 rods on a 225?

Also if anyone and I mean ANYONE knows of any good companies that sell parts (performance and stock, engine, tranny, suspension, brakes ALL OF THE ABOVE) for Darts and Slant sixes I would appreciate.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

You can use 198rods in a 225 block, the only option for pistons right now are the 2.2L (mopar) turbo and non turbo pistons.

to fit the pistons in a 225 block you have to bore it .045" for stock size 2.2L pistons. The Turbo pistons will give you 11:1 compression and the non-turbo pistons will give you 12:1 compression.

If you can find pistons you can bore a slantsix out .100" if it has never been bored out before. Some racers have gone to 130" (around that) but i wouldnt reccomend it.

You can get parts for the slantsix from:
Clifford Performance, Isky Cams, Comp Cams, Ultradyne cams, Crane cams, Hooker Headers, and MANY more places

I wouldn't say the mopar 2.2 pistions are the only options available. The corvair flat 6 had a 3.40" bore. The 88mm VW flat 4 piston could work. The Toyota 20R 88mm pistion could work. The Chev 2.8 V6 has a 3.5" bore and could work. Somebody mentioned that the Ford 2.3 Zetec has a 3.40" bore. A lot of possibilities, none of which will work seamlessly.
