Post subject:  Cracked exhaust manifold....

Yeah.....thats what I got. Happened the other day while freeway testing my 63 valiant. So, I gotta locate a replacement. I was planning on heading to the J-yards this weekend, but Im unsure of what years will be fully compatible with my car. Again Its a 63 valiant with a 225 and I'd like to get away without any mods. Any help would be appreciated (as always).
Thanks...

I believe any manifold will work. The later manifolds will have re-enforcing ribs to make them stronger than the one that came on your Valiant. The choke pockets might be different though. You have the pocket in the manifold that the thermostate goes into right? I believe '72 was the last year for that, as that is what I have. The '73 replacement engine I put in had the electric assist choke thermostate, non pocket type.

Make sure you check for warpage of JY manifolds or else you are going to be not so pleasently surprised when you go home.

Post subject:  Best way to check for warpage?

OK...so I managed to scrounge some manifolds from the JYard this weekend. Actually found a 63 down there, and without excessive pain yanked the whole deal out. And with a quick look and a "straight" edge called 'em straight. However, I'd like to be more confident in what I've got instead of running into the same problem again. So, how do you guys do a reliable check for warpage?? Does machine shop resurfacing help out here? Thanks......again.

Get a spare gasket and line it up on the assembly. If you can get the two outer stud holes matched and all the ports align, your good to go.
