A good place to start is a book by Corky Bell called "Maximum Boost."

www.wagnermotorsports.com is another good place to go for info. You should give Andrew Wagner a call there if you are serious. He can give good advice and fabricate parts for you.

Maximum Boost is a good book, but I sometimes think Corky Bell mixes facts and opinions a bit freely and doesn't always say which is which. It's still a great book for building a turbo car, particularly a EFI one. However, Hugh MacInnes's Turbochargers has a lot more to say about carbs and turbos. However, I'd recommend both - it's hard to research something too well before starting!

BTW, what turbo is it your buddy has? Not all of them work well on slants...

Yeah, that's perfect. The Buick V6 is almost exactly the same size as a slant six. It's just that there are used turbos floating around off everything from Chevy Sprints to big rigs, and I've seen some incredibly creative mismatching. My favorite was a Buick V6 turbo on a lawnmower engine - it wouldn't spool unless they fed it with compressed air through the exhaust, and then it would hit the surge limit....

This is interesting :D I got more questions... Do you get enough RPM on a stock motor to get full use of a turbo? Thinking maybe it's best to at least change cam to match the RPM's...

Rad to answer your question about stock and turbos, do a search on Tom Drake. Happy reading!

Post subject: Depends on what turbo

Different turbos work best at different RPM's. For example, a stock slant six spinning at around 3,000 RPM with a TE04 off a K-car turbo at around 8 psi of boost would be right smack dab in the peak efficiency of the turbo. A Buick turbo might be happier another 1,000 RPM or so higher, although I can't verify that without a compressor map. But the Buick Turbo V6 is no rev-monster either. So I'd expect it to be a reasonable match for a slant six.
