i have gotten old and i don't see as well as i used to. specifically, changing focus from far away (driving) to close up (radio) is an issue that did not used to exist. however, it's not an issue at all for old-fashioned radios; they were very simple to use, and very readable. the push of a button usually resolved whatever was desired, and they were large and easy to see. today's aftermarket stereos are a disaster for me. it doesn't matter if it's day or night, i can't see the damn thing or figure out what the buttons mean. meanwhile, the radios that came factory in my ford focus, cadillac deville (10 disc changer), chrysler pacifica and now a 2014 300 are all...USEABLE. no problems whatsoever! i want to put some tunes in my 75 valiant. i'm not sure if they even still make the old "2 pole" center-mount units anymore. cd capability is nice, i don't use cassettes anymore. i don't have an ipod or anything newer than cd technology, but i would sure like to be able to listen to what i want and to actually be able to use it, whether i am in traffic or if it's day or night. i think i may be out of luck, though... |

thanks, dan! i'm now cautiously optimistic. i only had time to glance through the linked thread, but it looks promising. i remember when i was a kid, the manufacturers weren't paying attention to performance, but they sure do now. particularly, you don't have to have bifocals to be able to drive the car and use it's features. i wonder why the aftermarket limits themselves to kids. maybe they think that is all the business they will get. |
