Got the motor totally apart and want to clean up the water pump. How does one get the impeller off. I tried a little with a puller but feared I would bend the impeller. Is there a trick to this? Thanks. |

Why? If I was that far into it, I'd be thinking of changing the bearing and main shaft seal. Then I'd just buy a new or re-man pump for about $35, as it's not worth the aggravation, to me. |

Thanks guys. My point was, how does one get the pump apart. Pump look relatively new. Just want to put a new gasket in between. |

You should be able to pry the plate off the old gasket and the body clean it up and work a new set of gaskets in place without taking the pump apart. I would work a thin tool like a gasket scraper in to separate the body from the plate to start with then go from there... |

Some years ago I wanted a short shaft pump for my HAMBster. In the process of modding one I snagged two of those plates, from two DNF pumps. I then cut each along a line between two of the screw holes sort of opposite each other, leaving the good side of the cuts opposite each other as well. For assembly I fitted'em together on another pump, squeezing a bit of gasket goop in the cracks to seal'em up. The cobble worked so nicely that I've done all of'em that way since. The two piece plates make it really easy to clean the surfaces, and apply the gaskets, and have been re-used several times each. With only a bit more care you could harvest one from a good pump for one side. |
