Fellas,
Here I go again, and I'm gettin' frustrated. Walked away for a little while hoping that would help.
Still cannot get my freshly rebuilt slant six to idle. Low vacuum at all times. VERY STEADY, however, just low.

Used the Crane NOS S-264 cam. Duration around 264. Lift around .434.

Checked compression. 120-125psi. COLD. Checked for a vacuum leak by cutting an old inner tube and using a plate as a cover over the carb mounting flange. Removed the rocker shaft to shut all valves. Applied 15 psi. to the power brake opening in the manifold. No leaks on intake. Thought I heard the leak at the spark plug holes. Removed the plugs and found I left the rings on. Removed the rings, still heard the air. Suspect all I hear (using a piece of heater hose as a stethoscope) is the air sneaking past the rings.

Any other ideas??

Tim

You may want to try a different carb.
What happens if you slowly close the choke flap during idle, will the engine run better with a partially closed choke? (=lean idle condition) or does it get worse? (= rich idle condition)

Did you say that you degreed-in the cam? How does the engine run at speed? (the cam may be retarded)

Doc,

Tried 3 carbs. All behave the same. Once off idle, all is well. Haven't degreed the cam. Just verified that the pip marks are close by making sure the rockers on cyl #6 are dead even (exh. closing and int. opening) and then verifying that the timing marks are at TDC. Cannot find ANY vacuum leaks.

Thinking about advancing the cam 6 degrees. Does anybody make an offset pin for this?
