i have an 83 dodge pickup with a 225 super six, i swapped out the lean burn system for the older type, i got the truck to run but it runs real rough and pops through the carb and is real hard to start. I've lined up the rotor with the number 1 terminal on the distributor... i haven't looked in my chiltons book yet, that 's the next step. just wanted to know what some of your input is on swapping out the lean burn system...any help would greatly be appreciated. speedfreak... |

Are you sure you have the firing order right? sounds to me like the timing could be out... Justin |

Your distributor may be 180 degrees off. #6 and #1 are at TDC at the same time, but one is at TDC n the compression stroke and one is at TDC at the end of the exhaust stroke. If have seen a slant six run with the distributor 180 degrees off so it is not imposible. Try swapping plug wires around before you pull the dist. If it fixes it, pull the dist, move the rotor 180 degrees and put the plug wires back in correctly. Reed |

Do you have a timing light? If it runs, it is easy to check the timing with a timing light. Adjust as needed, you may need to loosen the plate hold down screw on the bottom of the distributor or move a tooth to get the timing correct. DD |

If you don't have a timing light, you can still adjust the timing by ear. As Doc said, losen the plate hold down screw (at the bottom of the dist.) and rotate the dist. Clockwise advances, counterclockwise retards. If it starts to ping, back off a little bit and you're good to go. |
