Anyone got any reports on racing against another non-Mopar inline? My youngest son's first car was a '73 Maverick with a 250. We put headers and a staged 2v on it and it was fairly peppy. Seems like a good race between the Ford small six and the Slant if both were similar builds. Just thinking out loud. Not sure.. i think inliners do this alot.. Scott aka cncdude might be able to comment on that as well. By the way the front spoiler and bullitt 17x8s look killer in the white mav.. Greg |

Thanks for the compliment on the Mav. I figured a few of you that raced pretty often might have come across some more in-line competition but I realize they are few and far between really. |

Yes they are.. Inliners.org. i think is the national inline association I was going to attempt to attend the national meet in summer of 2016 in the dayton/columbus area but it did not work out with other slant 6 points races as well as family vacation. Lots of ford 300, amc 258/4.0. And Gmc inline support. Greg |

Nice looking Maverick! When I had my Duster I raced other 6's quite often. There was a 258 Gremlin at RT. 66 that used to beat me like a redheaded stepchild. There was a Nova at Cordova with a 292 in it. I had his number though. Every time we raced I gapped him. ![]() |

Ford 250 and 300, Chevy 250, and AMC 258/4.0L all do pretty well at the track... The only real problem these all have are the nasty log manifold they got collared with for an intake... with EFI it wouldn't matter, but for a carbed motor something like our shorty manifolds would help a bit more... that being said, they have a slight advantage over the slant in theat they have fatter bores than strokes so tend to be cammed like most V-8 engines... Hand for hand each side can keep up with the others, I have raced against other brands and found each manufacturer is very worthy and each field has it's own enthusiasts that are just as willing to share as we are about what makes 'em go faster. ![]() |

Been racing a friend with an early Ford 170 (cast on log with carbs added) with a comparable build to weight ratio for a few years. Each of us have been upgrading at about the same rate 'til this year, and've been splitting our runs fairly consistently. She's gone to a well built 200 for the next season, and is now better ratioed than I am. Due to a family medical problem last year I won't be building another mill for a bit, so'll likely be watching her taillight for a season or two. ![]() |

Cool discussion. I have contemplated putting a Slant in a Maverick in the past... Doubt I'll ever do it, but maybe another non-Mopar body. ![]() Lou |

I think a 300 Ford would be a ton of fun. |

A 300 Ford can be had with factory dual exhausts, factory EFI, mated to a factory automatic overdrive transmission. If the 351W in my Ford van ever dies and if I keep the van after that point, I will think long and hard about installing a 300 instead of a 351.

I actually tried to get other make 6 cylinders allowed in to a couple Slant races years ago and got poo-pood soundly. |

I like the idea but understand not including them in the slant six points races. Perhaps some sort of grudge match would be the ticket. Anyone know someone over on fordsix.com?

Dunno if this'll help, but due to our low car count we run our own elims within another class by the expedient of arranging to stage together during quals in that class. The strips & promoters don't mind allowing it, and technically we're getting to actually race twice as much. |
