Went and got some of the NGK ZFR5N plugs as advised here, but with a problem arising. When I remove the metal crush washer as instructed here, the tube and tube gasket doesn't seal properly and is a bit loose - as in it wobbles when I twiddle it with my fingers. With the metal crush washer on I won't get this issue. Any ideas here? Is that looseness expected or am I hitting an issue here? |

Your hitting an issue. Perhaps the threads in the head are dirty and not letting the plug seat fully? I believe stock plugs leave the last thread or so exposed in the head, possibly got carboned up. |

I've always wanted to get a thread chaser just for that reason...

All six? It seems weird that all six would do the same exact thing, i.e. all threads are crapped up to the same level. Have you had any milling work done on this head or block? Taller pistons? brian |

Not sure if it was all six. I tested on 3 cylinders before going out and grabbing a thread chaser just now. It solved the issue just fine. Seemed to have the problem on all 6 from the mid-thread resistance it gave... And like @Pierre hinted at, the chaser did indeed pull up a bunch of carbon deposit. Thanks for the help folks! |

In my youth when I worked behind a parts counter I once had someone ask for plugs for their 1975 model-year 225. I asked if it had spark plug tubes or not. It did, but someone had put peanut plugs in there previously and he had to chase the threads to remove the carbon. |
