I would like to say hi to all the slant heads on this forum, and thank you all for helping me keep my engine running next to perfect!! I am researching exhaust and mufflers. I am not really a fan of loud exhaust.. ( I THOUGHT I WAS AT ONE POINT, AND CHANGED MY MIND AFTER OWNING ONE). If I understand correctly, some degree of noise will come with performance exhaust. I am willing to accept some noise, as long as it does not wake up the neighborhood in the morning. I have read that chambered mufflers tend to be restrictive,,, (most flowmasters are chambered). I have been looking at this muffler: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/stree ... y=&kw=HP-2 Is this a restrictive design?? Also, is it moderate in the noise it produces? What is your take on this muffler? What is meant by laminar flow?? Is there a better route? I want a muffler that does not restrict, and that is as quiet as possible. Thank you. |

I put one of these https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/ ... /overview/ on the Desoto "just to get it on the road" It is really quiet...fit like a dream. I was going to get a fancy muffler but after 30 000 miles of trouble free service I think Ill just keep it. |

The trick is to use a large muffler for a luxury car with a large engine. Has plenty of flow and is quiet............ |

I have the 50-Delta Flowmaster installed; it's a middle-of-the-road muffler that's quite on the inside at all speeds with a nice rumble at idle and under power. The HP-2 will be louder than this. I like you have grown old of loud mufflers, I appreciate them on other peoples rides - just don't want to live with one. This is a livable muffler (my perspective). Flowmaster claims it also flows as good as the 40 - which is a free-flow muffler and that it increases scavenging - who knows if either is true, but I did notice the off-idle response was a tad stronger. The higher the series-number, the quieter the exhaust will be - at least with Flowmaster. Here's a sound chart by muffler series/design http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/street-mufflers/ Personally, I decided not to go lower than the 50-Delta - I had the 40-series on for a week and loved it at idle but hated it at anything faster because of the resonance. Just my opinion - your experience may differ. -C |

Little late. When I got it, the car had a Y split under the driver's seat and two Charger V-8 exhaust mufflers, so it would look as an 8 cylinder, but the droning while driving at 60-70 was impossible to handle. So I had the wye cut, and the remaining exhaust connected with the Flowmaster HP-II. Is really silent. if you want to use two mufflers and use the one you have, you can try it. Power? Well, engine has not been overhauled, so I'm not complaining if it loss a little power, I'm not pushing it anyway. Note: SlantSixDan mentioned somewhere here a kit you could order from Chrysler/Dodge to make your car quieter (when buying it new), and included a resonator or an extra high flow muffler installed before the main muffler, but I cannot find the reference now. |
