Hey guys got a slant 6 68 cuda with super six set up, dutra exhaust set up, 4 speed (non overdrive) and planning on doing future head work and efi. What's a good gear selection that's recommended, it's gonna be cruiser and using a 8 3/4 rear end. Clutch or cone type? |

What size tire are you going to run? Very important variable in choosing a gear. Look at the chart on this link: https://tiresize.com/gear-ratio-calculator/ It will help a lot. With an automatic I like to run 3.21 in my cars with a 205/70-14, which is about a 25" diameter tire. 3.55s are more fun for a while and might remain so in a stick shift car.... sb |

Actually I am planning on running your tire size as well.

205/70R14 with a 3.23 8 3/4" and a direct 4 speed would be a good combination for mileage and performance (my Aspen project is 3.21, 205's, and an A904 with stall convertor).... you just gotta watch it on your exhaust and distributor curve because you will be at 65 mph at about 3000 rpm... so if you are used to the low rpm sound the drone can get old after a while... if you want to artificially change your ratio try a set of 195/70R14's... I used a set on the BV project with a A230 3 speed and 2.94's and it was peppy... If you go 3.55's... be ready to hand back some of your gas mileage... the 3 speed and 3.55's netted me the best of 18 mpg highway with the secondaries locked out on a 390 Holley... 3.55's and an OD things get fun and nice mileage... both combinations were in Dusters that are 300 lbs heavier than the late 60's Barracuda's... |
