Dr Wheelie here with some good news.
I got a nice clean, straight replacement exhaust manifold and I have most everything bolted up. Tomorrow I should be able to fire her up and see how I did.

One problem I encountered is that the factory super six aircleaner I sourced from a 78 super six wont clear the vaccume booster pod on my '76. I think a bit of dremeling on the inside lip of the aircleaner where it meets the carb should take care of it. However, I dont have the part that holds the stud to screw on the aircleaner lid. I havenet been able to find an afermarket replacement one since the part does not thread into the middle of the carb but is more like a bow of thick wire that has a stud in the middle of it.

So, my aircleaner wont stay on. I was thinking about getting a chrome aftermarket, mr gasket type replacement. Anyone know if one of these will fit? Any part #s would be really helpful too

Thanks
Dr. Wheelie

I had similar problems trying to find the air cleaner stud tower, i never found one in the parts stores, but one trip to the boneyard "carb shack" and i found more than i could shake a stick at. :)

Hey Doc,

I replaced my air cleaner with a cheapo chrome unit from Pep Boys. When the filter is dirty I'll replace it with a K&N. You'll need a couple of other things besides the air cleaner unit, though.
1. Adapter. About three bucks. Plastic, but fits nicely around your carb throat.

2. Nylon right-angled hose connector for your breather on the valve cover. Glue this on over the nub that's on the air cleaner adapter. You'll need to drill out the nub. It's easy.

You don't need to change that wire bale on your carburetor. Take it out and replace the existing bolt with a 2" carraige bolt. Get a nut and tighten it down to hold it into the bale.

Good luck,

Joe
