| Post subject: | Best distributor number for truck slant (missing post?) |
Hi all! I swear I started a topic on this but I can't find it in my user control panel. I'm looking to get an old carparts NW dizzy for my HEI conversion and was wondering what the "best" numbers are for a truck application, longevity, etc. Thanks! |

Best all around is the 3874876 distributor. (9R governor... with a truck you may need to swap the vacc advance with a SMP VC-239 to limit the amount of advance for as heavy brick) Next best would be the 1976 3874598. Next best is a mid-70's truck distributor with the 13R governor (but marginally so...) Last choice is the 1973-1975 distributor 3755042...to 3755082... (15L governor) One thing I will advise is when getting a dizzy from OCPNW... you will need to disassemble it, clean out the petrified grease, and relube it.... I just did another member's OCPNW dizzy after he complained of bad MPG, and after spooling it up and finding it was not mechanically advancing... then had real fun getting the governor and weights to free up from what almost amounted to fossilized cosmoline... it suddenly functioned well, and I was then able to tweak the curve a bit... the good news is, that the dizzy was perfect in tolerences and was an almost easy disassemble and clean up once it was apart. FYI. I can recurve the distributor if needed for you for a small fee (saves time swapping it out of the car and running the engine with timing light). Cheers! |

Thanks DusterIdiot! I remember you saying about as much last time, but I couldn't remember the numbers. Cheers! |
