Hello Slant-6 board! With the resources from this site, I have my old Tower of Power running pretty well! The information about replacing the manifold saved me! My fuel pump (Carter part) has given up. What after-market is the best replacement part to go with? Thanks for all the information!! Jerry Kenney, Frisco TX |

I recommend going with a new-old-stock fuel pump. Vendors such as old car parts northwest ( http://www.ocpnw.com )should be able to get you a NOS fuel pump, but you may need the specific part number for your model of vehicle. Aftermarket choices these days are fairly slim for stock style mechanical pumps, and quality is always an open question. |

I replaced mine with an aftermarket pump from O'Reilly's over one year ago and have had no issues. My engine is stock with a single barrel carb. |

I concur with Reed; newer parts for any engine these days tend to be made sloppy. A fuel pump has the potential to mix gasoline with oil if they fail, which could destroy the innards of the engine. If you go rebuilt, at least try to find something not made in China. |

Is there any danger to going with a NOS pump that may actually have a 20,30or 40 year old diaphragm in it? Even though it was not used is it possible that it may have deteriorated? Just wondering.I have never had a diaphragm leak on any of the new pumps I have put on over the years. |
