Post subject:  ring gear question

I am getting ready to button up my 4 speed manual back to the slant 6 now that it has been rebuilt and painted. Decided to have a good look at the flywheel and ring gear and I do have a couple of spots where a couple of teeth have chipped on the ring gear, so I've been exploring replacing it.
Turns out they seem as rare as hens teeth; mine is the 143 tooth ring. After surfing the web and calling around everywhere I found 1 ring in the southern US which will cost me double by the time I ship it to Canada.
My question is, is there any reason why I can't just flip the ring gear over and use the other side? It is in good shape other than those 2 worn spots and the other side is of course perfect. Would save me a lot of cash and 2 weeks of waiting but if there is a good reason not to do it, then I will bite the bullet and hold up my project for 2 more weeks.
Opinions gents?

I don't see why you could not do that. That was a common practice in the old days.
