Has anyone blocked heat crossing to intake? I hear a noise until the engine warms up. Why do slant 6s require such hot intake? |

Yes, I did on mine, I'm also a south Fla guy, I used a SS plate to help reduce heat transfer, and incorporated an internal exhaust flow vane. I'm also port efi, so heat serves little purpose in my case. |

I did not put a deflector on mine, but I will make one like the stock one? |

**********************************************************It's for cold weather drive ability. The heat from the exhaust helps to keep the fuel in suspension in the air stream on acceleration. If one were to crack the throttle too hard while cold, the fuel can condense out of the charge and puddle on the intake plenum floor. Roger |

It is not just for cold-weather driveability. It helps with that, yes, but intake manifold heat is beneficial no matter what the outside temperature is. See here. You hear a noise coming from the intake-to-exhaust junction? The solution is to fix it, not start disabling parts and systems because you don't quite understand them but you've decided you don't like them. It is very much worth your while to get the good gaskets for the manifolds-to-head and intake-to-exhaust junctions. |

Yes, I agree that a hot intake is good in cold weather. Here in Texas my intake is so hot that it will blister your hand if touched. The gas seems to boil in the carb. I made a metal gasket to Bloch off the exhaust under the carb. The stainless one had a small vane on one end. The car runs better but has a clicking noise in the exhaust until warm and quits. Evidently it was engineered to run that hot. Should I remove the block off plate and put back the original gasket? Thanks |

If I lived in Texas, I would leave it blocked until I saw a problem with driveability or MPG or something. Lou |

In Australia which is a very similar climate to Florida it was not unusual to see slants with headers and no manifold heat whatsoever and they ran without issue. The hot box manifold heating would be vital in cold climates, but in warmer regions it’s not essential from my experience. |

With headers and Offy intake mine runs without issue here in NW GA. |

SOunds like your problem is a leak, the clicking sound is an exhaust leak, likely seals up once hot, so it's a very narrow gap. Take Dan's advice and get a good sealing gasket. I like Remflex for this purpose, part number is 6008 i think. |

"Where can I find some?" One way is to search on EBAY for: 6008 Remflex Exhaust Gaskets Slant 6 There are a couple of vendors on there now selling them |
